Plashy Fen
by Maddie Grigg
In the quiet village of Plashy Fen, where Dorset’s rolling fields meet the restless sea, everyone knows everyone… or at least they think they do.
Behind neat hedgerows and familiar faces, lives overlap, secrets simmer and small moments carry unexpected weight. At the heart of it all is Lindy Vickery—practical, dependable and quietly holding the community together, though few truly notice.
Told through a chorus of voices, these interwoven stories reveal a place shaped by friendship, longing and the tension between those who arrive and those who feel they can never quite leave.
But beneath the warmth and humour, hidden truths begin to surface.
Warm, wise and gently funny, Plashy Fen is a comforting yet poignant portrait of village life, where every story matters and every life leaves its mark.
“Plashy Fen is the story of an imagined, yet wholly real, Dorset fishing community. There is nothing ordinary about its inhabitants, for their internal lives, hopes and dreams are anything but commonplace and are vividly brought to the page. Dark tones—including a decades-old murder—bring a touch of disquiet to the bucolic. I couldn’t put this book down.”
— Katherine Mezzacappa, author of The Maiden of Florence

About the author:
Aidan K. Morrissey
Aidan writes stories shaped by history, conflict, and the choices people make when the ground shifts beneath them. His work ranges from ancient Egypt to early medieval Britain and into the modern world, united by a fascination with power, belief, and identity.
His Tácnbora series explores a divided Britain where belief, politics, and survival collide. The Awakening Aten turns to ancient Egypt at a moment of radical change, while The Atenisti brings those themes into the present in a contemporary crime-adventure inspired by true events.
Alongside his fiction, Aidan works with writers through Larbok Creative, offering thoughtful, practical guidance to help them strengthen their work and move forward with clarity and confidence. He also leads one of the UK’s largest creative writing groups.
Aidan is a UK Editor for the Historical Novel Review and an active member of the Historical Novel Society. He led the organising team for the HNS Conference 2022 in Durham and is part of the committee for HNS 2026 in Maynooth, Ireland.
Aidan lives and writes in Northumberland, UK, and travels regularly for his professional work.
